Self Defense is Here in Northern Michigan!

The words "self defense" can mean many things to any people. For some it means never traveling alone when in places unknown. To others it may mean having a weapon close at hand. And to others still it may mean knowing how to use their body to fend off or subdue an attacker. In Traverse City, the instructors at Seung-Ni Martial Arts Acadey work to provide the latter.

The simplest form of self-defense is to hit the person attacking you. The Seung-ni Black Belt teachers make this more elegant and effective with Taekwondo, a popular striking martial art from Korea. Using a combination of strikes that utilize hands, feet, and elbows, Taekwondo is an easy to use martial art for standing self-defense. It is also easily learned by kids, teens, and adults alike!

Not all self-defense situations call for striking, however. Sometimes an aggressor may pull a weapon or grab onto you or your clothing. Seung-Ni also offers classes that address these as scenarios. Brazilian Jui-Jitsu classes deal with fights that may go to the ground and this martial art, being focused more on manipulation of the body, is usuable by those with any body type. All Martial Arts classes will touch on weapon defense but specialized Women Self Defense classes will focus on these points more closely.

If you or someone you know in the Grand Traverse area is interested or has a child who is interested in martial arts classes please contact Seung-Ni Martial Arts at (231) 932-4300 or visit us at seungnitc.com
